relating to an exemption for attorneys from athlete agent | ||
registration. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 2051.101, Occupations Code, is amended | ||
by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as | ||
follows: | ||
(a) Except as provided by Subsection (b) or (b-1), an | ||
individual may not act as an athlete agent in this state or | ||
represent that the individual is an athlete agent in this state | ||
unless the individual holds a certificate of registration under | ||
this chapter as: | ||
(1) a professional athlete agent; or | ||
(2) a limited athlete agent. | ||
(b-1) An attorney licensed in this state is not required to | ||
hold a certificate of registration under this chapter to act as an | ||
athlete agent. A licensed attorney who acts as an athlete agent in | ||
this state is considered to be registered under this chapter and | ||
must comply with and is subject to all other provisions of this | ||
chapter. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
