relating to the testing required for a commercial driver's license | ||
for veterans of the United States armed forces with previous truck | ||
driving experience. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 522.023, Transportation Code, is amended | ||
by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows: | ||
(j) To the extent allowed by federal law, the department | ||
shall waive the knowledge test for a veteran of the United States | ||
armed forces who previously held a commercial driver's license or | ||
similar authority to operate a commercial motor vehicle or whose | ||
service in the armed forces involved the operation of trucks | ||
comparable to commercial motor vehicles. The department shall by | ||
rule: | ||
(1) determine the type of military service that is | ||
comparable to the operation of commercial motor vehicles; and | ||
(2) prescribe the form of proof required to establish | ||
that the person previously held a commercial driver's license or | ||
similar authority to operate a commercial motor vehicle. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
