| in the United States. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 140, Local Government Code, is amended | ||
| by adding Section 140.014 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 140.014. PROHIBITION ON USE OF PUBLIC MONEY TO PROVIDE | ||
| LEGAL SERVICES FOR UNLAWFULLY PRESENT INDIVIDUALS. Unless required | ||
| by the United States Constitution, a political subdivision may not: | ||
| (1) use public money to provide legal services for an | ||
| individual who is unlawfully present in the United States according | ||
| to the terms of the federal Immigration and Nationality Act (8 | ||
| U.S.C. Section 1101 et seq.); or | ||
| (2) provide public money to a person to be used to | ||
| directly or indirectly provide legal services for an individual | ||
| described by Subdivision (1). | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the | ||
| last day of the legislative session. | ||
