relating to the designation of a state trade representative. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 772, Government Code, is amended by | ||
adding Section 772.012 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 772.012. STATE TRADE REPRESENTATIVE. (a) The governor | ||
shall designate a state trade representative in the governor's | ||
office. | ||
(b) To be eligible for designation as the state trade | ||
representative, an individual must have: | ||
(1) a degree with specialization in international | ||
trade or international relations or a related field; or | ||
(2) significant work experience in international | ||
trade or international relations or a related field. | ||
(c) The state trade representative may not be assigned | ||
duties other than duties related to the representative's | ||
designation under this section. | ||
(d) The state trade representative shall annually report to | ||
the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of | ||
representatives, and the standing committees in the senate and | ||
house of representatives with jurisdiction over international | ||
trade matters on: | ||
(1) expansion of international trade in this state, | ||
including opening of new markets for goods and services produced | ||
and manufactured in this state; and | ||
(2) major investments made in this state as a result of | ||
international commerce. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
