Summary
A BILL TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-1-497 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A PUBLIC SCHOOL OF THIS STATE MAY DEVELOP A POLICY THAT REQUIRES A PERSON WHO WAITS IN A MOTOR VEHICLE WITH AN IDLING ENGINE TO DEACTIVATE THE ENGINE WHILE DROPPING OFF OR PICKING UP A STUDENT FROM SCHOOL PROPERTY, TO PROVIDE SIGNAGE REQUIREMENTS, TO ALLOW SWORN OFFICERS TO ISSUE NONMOVING TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS TO THOSE WHO FAIL TO COMPLY, AND TO PROVIDE THAT MONIES COLLECTED FROM THE VIOLATIONS MUST BE DEPOSITED IN THE GENERAL FUND.

Provide That A Public School Of This State May Develop A Policy That Requires A Person Who Waits In A Motor Vehicle With An Idling Engine To Deactivate The Engine While Dropping Off Or Picking Up A Student From School Property, To Provide Signage Requirements, To Allow Sworn Officers To Issue Nonmoving Traffic Violations To Those Who Fail To Comply, And To Provide That Monies Collected From The Violations Must Be Deposited In The General Fund.
