| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating April 19 through 26, 2009, as "Days of Remembrance |
2 | of the Victims of the Holocaust" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, From 1933 to 1945 six million Jews were murdered in |
4 | the Nazi Holocaust as part of a systematic pogrom of genocide, |
5 | and millions of other people perished as victims of Nazism; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should always |
7 | remember the atrocities committed by the Nazis so that such |
8 | horrors are never repeated and should continually rededicate |
9 | themselves to the principle of equal justice for all people; and |
10 | WHEREAS, The people of this Commonwealth should remain |
11 | eternally vigilant against all tyranny and should recognize that |
12 | bigotry provides a breeding ground for tyranny to flourish; and |
13 | WHEREAS, April 21, 2009, has been designated internationally |
14 | as a Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Nazi Holocaust, known |
15 | as Yom Hashoah; and |
16 | WHEREAS, It is appropriate for the people of this |

1 | Commonwealth to join in the international commemoration; |
2 | therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That the Senate designate April 19 through 26, |
4 | 2009, as "Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust" |
5 | in Pennsylvania, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust in |
6 | the hope that we may strive to overcome prejudice and inhumanity |
7 | through education, vigilance and resistance. |
