A RESOLUTION

  

1

Honoring the life of former Senator Wayne S. Ewing and extending

2

condolences to his family.

3

WHEREAS, Former Senator Wayne S. Ewing died March 19, 2010;

4

and

5

WHEREAS, Wayne S. Ewing was born on Valentine's Day in 1929

6

in Coraopolis, was a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School and The

7

Pennsylvania State University and was a veteran of the Korean

8

War; and

9

WHEREAS, Senator Ewing was elected to the Senate from the

10

37th Senatorial District in 1967 to succeed his father, the late

11

Edwin C. Ewing; and

12

WHEREAS, Senator Ewing was re-elected to the Senate in 1968

13

and 1972; and

14

WHEREAS, Senator Ewing served as part of the Republican

15

Leadership team as the chairman of the Policy Committee from

16

1973 through 1976 and among his legislative accomplishments was

17

the rewrite of the Public Utilities Code in partnership with

then-Senator Franklin Kury, who served as the chairman of the

2

Consumer Affairs Committee; and

3

WHEREAS, Following his service as Senator, Senator Ewing

4

served as Director of Outreach Services for the Republican

5

Caucus before returning to the private sector with Associated

6

Petroleum Industries, where he was employed until his

7

retirement; and

8

WHEREAS, Senator Ewing was an active member of the Pine

9

Street Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, where he served as an

10

elder; and

11

WHEREAS, Senator Ewing was well known for his abundant common

12

sense, his ready sense of humor and his gift for story telling,

13

as well as his passion for golf; therefore be it

14

RESOLVED, That the Senate express its sadness upon the

15

passing of its former colleague, Wayne S. Ewing, and offer its

16

condolences to his wife, children, stepchildren and other

17

survivors; and be it further

18

RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to

19

his widow, Chris Ewing.
