A RESOLUTION

  

1

Designating April 27, 2010, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of

2

the Year Day" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have touched the

4

lives of millions of children and teens through membership and

5

community outreach, with more than 4,300 club locations in all

6

50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands plus domestic and

7

international military bases; and

8

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the home to 18 independent Boys and

9

Girls Clubs of America organizations operating in 75

10

neighborhoods; and

11

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America serve more than

12

115,000 children from ages 5 to 18 across this Commonwealth; and

13

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have helped, and

14

will continue to help, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania

15

youngsters avoid drugs and gangs, earn better grades, stay fit,

16

prepare for careers, learn confidence and responsibility and

develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills; and

2

WHEREAS, The "Youth of the Year Day" is an annual event by

3

which members representing each of the 18 clubs across this

4

Commonwealth are honored for their outstanding service for their

5

clubs and their communities and one is chosen by a diverse panel

6

of community leaders among this elite group of children and

7

young adults to be named "Youth of the Year"; therefore be it

8

RESOLVED, That, in recognition of the role Boys and Girls

9

Clubs of America have played in our nation and Commonwealth, the

10

Senate designate April 27, 2010, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth

11

of the Year Day" in Pennsylvania.
