| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating April 27, 2010, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of |
2 | the Year Day" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have touched the |
4 | lives of millions of children and teens through membership and |
5 | community outreach, with more than 4,300 club locations in all |
6 | 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands plus domestic and |
7 | international military bases; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the home to 18 independent Boys and |
9 | Girls Clubs of America organizations operating in 75 |
10 | neighborhoods; and |
11 | WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America serve more than |
12 | 115,000 children from ages 5 to 18 across this Commonwealth; and |
13 | WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have helped, and |
14 | will continue to help, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania |
15 | youngsters avoid drugs and gangs, earn better grades, stay fit, |
16 | prepare for careers, learn confidence and responsibility and |

1 | develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills; and |
2 | WHEREAS, The "Youth of the Year Day" is an annual event by |
3 | which members representing each of the 18 clubs across this |
4 | Commonwealth are honored for their outstanding service for their |
5 | clubs and their communities and one is chosen by a diverse panel |
6 | of community leaders among this elite group of children and |
7 | young adults to be named "Youth of the Year"; therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That, in recognition of the role Boys and Girls |
9 | Clubs of America have played in our nation and Commonwealth, the |
10 | Senate designate April 27, 2010, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth |
11 | of the Year Day" in Pennsylvania. |
