| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the month of May 2010 as "Sleep Apnea Awareness |
2 | Month" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Millions of Americans suffer from sleep apnea, |
4 | narcolepsy and other sleep disorders or do not get a sufficient |
5 | amount of sleep; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Sleep apnea affects members of every socioeconomic |
7 | class and age group, and the majority of sufferers remain |
8 | undiagnosed and untreated; and |
9 | WHEREAS, The lack of quality sleep leads to fatigue and |
10 | diminishes a person's ability to stay alert, interfering with a |
11 | person's daily activities and causing numerous industrial, |
12 | traffic and other accidents; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Research studies have linked sleep apnea with |
14 | numerous acute and chronic health conditions, including |
15 | depression, heart disease and obesity; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Public awareness of sleep apnea and local resources |
17 | for diagnosis and treatment are necessary to address this |
18 | growing problem; therefore be it |

2 | "Sleep Apnea Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. |
