| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Extending heartfelt condolences to the people of Moosic upon the |
2 | death of longtime Mayor John M. Segilia, who died August 11, |
3 | 2010. |
4 | WHEREAS, Moosic Mayor John M. Segilia, who served as the |
5 | borough's mayor for almost 30 years, presiding over changes in |
6 | the borough that include the development of Montage Mountain, |
7 | died on August 11, 2010, at the age of 76; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mayor Segilia, who was serving in his eighth term at |
9 | the time of his death, used his post to help guide the |
10 | development of Moosic; and |
11 | WHEREAS, In addition to helping to forge the residential and |
12 | commercial development of Montage Mountain, he led a fight |
13 | against siting a State minimum security prison on the mountain |
14 | in 1975, opposed a proposal by a West Virginia-based Hare |

1 | Krishna sect to purchase Rocky Glen Park to build a temple |
2 | complex there, and in 2004, he successfully fought a proposed |
3 | adult bookstore; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The borough named a park after Mayor Segilia and |
5 | Borough Council President Joseph Mercatili in 1999 for their |
6 | combined efforts toward the positive development of Moosic; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mayor Segilia was named Mayor of the Year by the |
8 | Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania in 2002 |
9 | and received the same honor from the Pennsylvania State |
10 | Association of Boroughs in 2006; and |
11 | WHEREAS, A veteran of the Korean War, Mayor Segilia was also |
12 | a past president of the Moosic American Legion Home Association; |
13 | and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mayor Segilia is survived by his wife Loretta; by |
15 | his children Joanne, Marie, John and James and their spouses; by |
16 | nine grandchildren, and by his brothers Tom and Joseph; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Mayor Segilia served this Commonwealth and the |
18 | Borough of Moosic with commendable distinction; therefore be it |
19 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend heartfelt |
20 | condolences to the people of Moosic upon the death of longtime |
21 | Mayor John M. Segilia, who died August 11, 2010. |
