A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Department of Pennsylvania Marine Corps

2

League on its 67th anniversary.

3

WHEREAS, On June 6, 1923, Major General John A. Lejeune,

4

United States Marine Corps, retired, Honorary National

5

Commandant; Maurice A. Illch, National Commandant; Roy S.

6

Taylor, Senior National Vice Commandant; Kenneth B. Collings,

7

Junior Vice Commandant; Alexander F. Ormsby, National Judge

8

Advocate; the Reverend John H. Clifford, National Chaplain;

9

Edward A. Walker, National Sergeant At Arms; John B. Hinckley,

10

Jr., National Adjutant and Paymaster; and John E. Brock,

11

National Chief of Staff, composed the Marine Corps League; and

12

WHEREAS, Incorporated by an act of the Congress of the United

States on August 4, 1937, the Marine Corps League preserves the

2

traditions and promotes the interests of the United States

3

Marine Corps by banding together persons now serving in the

4

United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably

5

discharged from that service; and

6

WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League fits its members for the

7

duties of citizenship, encourages them to serve as ably as

8

citizens as they have served under arms and holds sacred the

9

history and memory of the Marines who have given their lives to

10

the nation; and

11

WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League voluntarily aids and renders

12

assistance to all Marines and former Marines as well as to their

13

survivors and dependents and perpetuates the history of the

14

United States Marine Corps through fitting acts to commemorate

15

historical occasions of interest to Marines; and

16

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania natives Wilson L. Peck (1961-1962),

17

Patrick J. Cody (1975-1976), Paul F. Hastings (1979-1981), Lamar

18

Golden (1991-1993) and Paul J. Seton (1995-1997) have each

19

served with distinction as National Commandant of the Marine

20

Corps League; and

21

WHEREAS, August 4, 2010, marks the 73rd anniversary of the

22

Marine Corps League's congressional incorporation authorized by

23

the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States

24

assembled at the First Session of the 75th Congress of the

25

United States and signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt; and

26

WHEREAS, The Department of Pennsylvania Marine Corps League

27

will conduct its 65th Annual State Convention June 23 through

28

25, 2010, in Harrisburg; and

29

WHEREAS, This year's State convention will remember the 65th

30

anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe in April 1945

and in the Pacific during August of 1945; and

2

WHEREAS, The Department of Pennsylvania Marine Corps League

3

will take this opportunity to personally honor hundreds of

4

Pennsylvania World War II veterans; therefore be it 

5

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the

6

Department of Pennsylvania Marine Corps League on its 67th

7

anniversary; and be it further

8

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to

9

Leanna Dietrich, State Commandant, Department of Pennsylvania

10

Marine Corps League, at the State convention on June 27, 2010,

11

in Harrisburg.
