A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the month of October 2013 as "Crime Prevention
2Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council was founded in
41982 to manage the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign
5and McGruff the Crime Dog and to administer the Crime Prevention
6Coalition of America; and

7WHEREAS, The modern mission of the National Crime Prevention
8Council is to help people keep themselves, their families and
9their communities safe from crime through various programs,
10publications and public service announcements; and

11WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council has, since
121984, annually designated October as "Crime Prevention Month,"
13the official month for recognizing and celebrating the practice
14of crime prevention; and

1WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council partners with
2prevention organizations, justice advocates and other
3professionals to build and sustain relationships with citizens
4and public officials to promote a national crime prevention
5agenda that will reduce the incidence of crimes, while helping
6communities identify and address the underlying causes of
7crimes; and

8WHEREAS, This year's Crime Prevention Month marks the 33rd
9birthday of McGruff the Crime Dog, the trench-coat-wearing icon
10of the National Crime Prevention Council, who has taught tens of
11millions of Americans to "Take a Bite Out of Crime"; and

12WHEREAS, Crime Prevention Month brings together government
13agencies, civic groups, schools, businesses and youth
14organizations in a joint effort to promote awareness of
15important issues such as victimization, volunteerism and
16creating healthier, safer communities; therefore be it

17RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
18month of October 2013 as "Crime Prevention Month" in
19Pennsylvania.
