| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the life of Justice Frank J. Montemuro, Jr., 86, who |
2 | died on March 29, 2012, in Newtown, Bucks County. |
3 | WHEREAS, Justice Frank J. Montemuro, Jr., 86, a former judge |
4 | of the Pennsylvania Superior Court and justice of the Supreme |
5 | Court, died on March 29, 2012, in Newtown, Bucks County; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Born in Philadelphia, Justice Montemuro was a |
7 | longtime resident of Bustleton. He also lived in Newtown for the |
8 | last ten years; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Justice Montemuro served in the Navy from 1944 to |
10 | 1946, including service with occupation forces in northern China |
11 | after World War II; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Justice Montemuro graduated from Temple University |
13 | and earned his law degree from Duke University in 1952; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In 1964, Governor William W. Scranton appointed |

1 | Justice Montemuro to a ten-year term on the Court of Common |
2 | Pleas of Philadelphia; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Justice Montemuro was appointed to Governor Milton |
4 | Shapp's advisory committee on the Juvenile Justice and |
5 | Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974; and |
6 | WHEREAS, In 1990, Governor Dick Thornburgh appointed him to |
7 | the Superior Court; and |
8 | WHEREAS, In 1992, Governor Robert Casey appointed Justice |
9 | Montemuro as an interim appointment to the Supreme Court and in |
10 | 1994 he became a senior justice; and |
11 | WHEREAS, The Supreme Court appointed him as chairman of the |
12 | Legislative Reapportiontment Commission in 2001; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Justice Montemuro served a four-year term as a |
14 | member of the Judiciary Inquiry and Review Board and was a |
15 | member of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court |
16 | Judges; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Justice Montemuro's accomplishments also include |
18 | many awards and accolades, including, among others, being named |
19 | a knight commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great by Pope |
20 | John Paul II; and |
21 | WHEREAS, Justice Montemuro is survived by his wife, Margaret; |
22 | his sons, Frank III, Michael and Anthony; his two sisters; and |
23 | his six grandchildren; and |
24 | WHEREAS, The service he provided to the justice system and to |
25 | the community will long be gratefully remembered; therefore be |
26 | it |
27 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of |
28 | Justice Frank J. Montemuro, Jr., 86, who died on March 29, 2012, |
29 | in Newtown, Bucks County. |
