A RESOLUTION

Designating July 22, 2012, as "Veterans Appreciation Day" in

2

Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Men and women from Bradford County and throughout

4

this Commonwealth have faithfully served in the armed forces of

5

the United States; and

6

WHEREAS, Throughout this nation's history, from the

7

Revolutionary War to our presence in Iraq and other areas of the

8

world, men and women of Bradford County and the other counties

9

of this Commonwealth have answered the call to defend our

10

freedom, our liberties and our ideals; and

11

WHEREAS, Throughout the history of Bradford County and this

12

entire Commonwealth, many of these men and women have paid the

supreme sacrifice by giving their lives or their freedom to

2

perpetuate the unique concept of life, liberty and the pursuit

3

of happiness upon which this great nation was founded; and

4

WHEREAS, Each year, for the 23rd consecutive year, a picnic

5

is held in honor of all veterans; and

6

WHEREAS, This year a picnic will be held on July 22, 2012, in

7

honor of all veterans to show appreciation for their sacrifices

8

to allow the American people the freedoms they enjoy every day;

9

and

10

WHEREAS, The picnic will be held at Wysox Fire Company

11

Grounds in Bradford County and the theme for this year's event

12

is "Families"; and

13

WHEREAS, Military families face a lifestyle that is comprised

14

of frequent deployments and unique challenges; and

15

WHEREAS, This often proves to be a stressful situation and

16

results in frequent family separations; and

17

WHEREAS, During deployment, the military spouses act as

18

single parents wondering if their loved ones will come home; and

19

WHEREAS, Young children do not have a choice in being part of

20

a family that enlisted or was called up; and

21

WHEREAS, Fortunately, programs and support groups are

22

available to provide guidance and coping skills to active-duty

23

military members, veterans and military families before, during

24

and after deployment; and

25

WHEREAS, Residents of Bradford County and all of the other

26

counties in this Commonwealth once again gather to recognize

27

these men and women who have served with honor; therefore be it

28

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate July

29

22, 2012, as "Veterans Appreciation Day" in Pennsylvania; and be

30

it further

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage all

2

citizens of this Commonwealth to take part in honoring the men

3

and women who have served our nation.
