A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of October 2011 as "Crime Prevention

2

Month" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council was founded in

4

1982 to manage the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign

5

and McGruff the Crime Dog and to administer the Crime Prevention

6

Coalition of America; and

7

WHEREAS, The modern mission of the National Crime Prevention

8

Council is to help people keep themselves, their families and

9

their communities safe from crime through various programs,

10

publications and public service announcements; and

11

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council has, since

12

1984, annually designated October as "Crime Prevention Month,"

13

the official month for recognizing and celebrating the practice

14

of crime prevention; and

15

WHEREAS, The National Crime Prevention Council partners with

prevention organizations, justice advocates and other

2

professionals to build and sustain relationships with citizens

3

and public officials to promote a national crime prevention

4

agenda that will reduce the incidence of crimes, while helping

5

communities identify and address the underlying causes of

6

crimes; and

7

WHEREAS, This year's Crime Prevention Month marks the 31st

8

birthday of McGruff the Crime Dog, the trench-coat-wearing icon

9

of the National Crime Prevention Council, who has taught tens of

10

millions of Americans to "Take a Bite Out of Crime"; and

11

WHEREAS, October Crime Prevention Month brings together

12

government agencies, civic groups, schools, businesses and youth

13

organizations in a joint effort to promote awareness of

14

important issues such as victimization, volunteerism and

15

creating healthier, safer communities; therefore be it

16

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

17

month of October 2011 as "Crime Prevention Month" in

18

Pennsylvania.
