A RESOLUTION
Designating June 16, 2011, as "Career Nursing Assistants Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Each day, more than 4.5 million career nursing
assistants provide as much as 80 to 90 percent of the direct
care to our nation's frail, elderly and chronically challenged
citizens in nursing homes and other long-term care settings,
giving their patients a sense of comfort and security; and
WHEREAS, Career nursing assistants are employed in a variety
of positions serving as nursing assistants, nurses' aides, care
assistants, hospice aides, in-home care aides, resident
assistants, hospice assistants, geriatric aides, restorative
aides, health care assistants, and others; and
WHEREAS, Career nursing assistants are instrumental in
promoting and safeguarding the physical, mental, emotional and

social well-being of their clients and their families; and
WHEREAS, Career nursing assistants are trained professionals,
who collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, therapists and
other health care providers to provide quality care; and
WHEREAS, Career nursing assistants often show tremendous
patience, understanding, dependability and a great desire to
help others in their daily line of work; and
WHEREAS, Due to a growing demand for home health care
services from an increasingly larger aging population, it is
estimated that an additional 700,000 new positions will need to
be filled by career nursing assistants within the next 25 years;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the General Assembly designate June 16, 2011,
as "Career Nursing Assistants Day" in Pennsylvania and encourage
the citizens of Pennsylvania to express their appreciation to
career nursing assistants for all the good work they do to care
for our most vulnerable citizens.
