| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Urging the members of the Judicial Branch to voluntarily reject |
2 | the annual cost-of-living adjustment to their salaries. |
3 | WHEREAS, In light of the rising State budget and the weakened |
4 | condition of the United States economy that continues to |
5 | negatively affect the citizens of this nation, many people are |
6 | concerned about the stability of their employment and expect |
7 | that they will not see any increase in their compensation for |
8 | the foreseeable future; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Changes to the Laws of Pennsylvania in 1995 |
10 | authorize an automatic cost-of-living adjustment for the annual |
11 | salaries of various elected officials in the Legislative, |
12 | Executive and Judicial Branches of State Government; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Some of those elected officials in the General |
14 | Assembly have publicly stated their intent to decline the cost- |
15 | of-living adjustments they are otherwise entitled to receive |
16 | under the law due to the condition of the economy; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Governor Edward G. Rendell has agreed not to |

1 | increase his salary and may cancel the increases for Executive |
2 | Branch personnel as well; and |
3 | WHEREAS, The elected officials of the Judicial Branch who are |
4 | eligible for the cost-of-living adjustment should follow the |
5 | example of the elected officials in the Legislative and |
6 | Executive Branches of State Government by voluntarily rejecting |
7 | the cost-of-living adjustments to their annual salaries; |
8 | therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the members |
10 | of the Judicial Branch to voluntarily reject the annual cost-of- |
11 | living adjustment to their salaries. |
