| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Commending Center Rock, Inc., and its owner, Brandon Fisher, for |
2 | the pivotal role they played in the rescue of the 33 Chilean |
3 | miners on October 13, 2010, in Copiapo, Chile. |
4 | WHEREAS, On August 5, 2010, a cave-in in the San Jose copper |
5 | mine near Copiapo, Chile trapped 33 men 2,300 feet underground; |
6 | and |
7 | WHEREAS, A small company in Berlin, Somerset County, that had |
8 | been instrumental in the 2002 Quecreek mine rescue in |
9 | Pennsylvania, was called upon by industry experts and the |
10 | Chilean government to drill a rescue bore hole to try to reach |
11 | the 33 miners; and |
12 | WHEREAS, The company, Center Rock, Inc., its engineers and |
13 | its owner, Brandon Fisher, have created pneumatic-driven air |
14 | compressor custom drills with bits that chip away at rock like a |
15 | jackhammer, and it was an extremely complex project to drill |

1 | through the hard rock while maintaining the safety of the |
2 | trapped men below; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Fisher worked with a Center Rock supplier, Driller |
4 | Supply of South America, to drill the hole and projected that |
5 | the men would be reached shortly before Christmas; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Rescue workers, family members and government |
7 | officials were overjoyed on Saturday, October 9, when the drill |
8 | broke through the final 100 feet of rock, months ahead of |
9 | schedule; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Fisher returned to the United States on Tuesday, |
11 | October 12, and watched, along with the rest of the world, as |
12 | each man emerged from the hole his drills had produced, thrilled |
13 | that all 33 men and six rescue workers were safe and uninjured |
14 | by the extraction process; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Many hundreds of workers made the rescue possible |
16 | and the Chilean government's support of the rescue was |
17 | essential, but their efforts would have been much more difficult |
18 | without the precision drills provided by Center Rock and Fisher, |
19 | who was on-site throughout the drilling process; therefore be it |
20 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend Center |
21 | Rock, Inc., and its owner, Brandon Fisher, for the pivotal role |
22 | they played in the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners on October |
23 | 13, 2010, in Copiapo, Chile. |
