| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating the Marshalls Creek Bypass, U.S. Route 209 from Twin |
2 | Falls Road in Smithfield Township, Monroe County, to Oak |
3 | Grove Drive in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, as |
4 | the Joseph W. Battisto Bypass; and designating State Route | <-- |
5 | 739 in Pike County as Pike County Veterans' Way. |
6 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
7 | hereby enacts as follows: |
8 | Section 1. Joseph W. Battisto Bypass. |
9 | (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as |
10 | follows: |
11 | (1) Joseph W. Battisto, born June 27, 1931, in Mount |
12 | Pocono, Pennsylvania, represented the citizens of the 189th |
13 | Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of |
14 | Representatives from January 4, 1983, to November 30, 2000. |
15 | (2) In the early part of the 1980s, Battisto played a |
16 | leading role in developing the idea of a bypass to alleviate |
17 | traffic congestion in the Marshalls Creek area of Monroe |
18 | County. The result is the U.S. Route 209 Bypass, which opened |
19 | to traffic in June 2012. |

1 | (3) Battisto graduated from Stroudsburg High School in |
2 | 1949. He earned a bachelor's degree from East Stroudsburg |
3 | State Teachers College in 1956 and a master's degree from the |
4 | University of Scranton in 1966. |
5 | (4) Battisto resides in Paradise Township, Monroe |
6 | County, with his wife, Virginia. They have four grown | <-- |
7 | children and eight grandchildren. |
8 | (b) Designation.--The Marshalls Creek Bypass, U.S. Route 209 |
9 | from Twin Falls Road in Smithfield Township, Monroe County, to |
10 | Oak Grove Drive in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, is |
11 | hereby designated the Joseph W. Battisto Bypass. |
12 | (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and |
13 | maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to |
14 | traffic in both directions on the highway. |
15 | Section 2. Pike County Veterans' Way. | <-- |
16 | (a) Designation.--State Route 739 in Delaware Township, |
17 | Dingman Township and Blooming Grove Township, Pike County, from |
18 | the intersection of State Route 6 to the State line is hereby |
19 | designated as Pike County Veterans' Way. |
20 | (b) Signs.–-The Department of Transportation shall erect and |
21 | maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to |
22 | traffic in both directions on the highway. |
23 | Section 2 3. Effective date. | <-- |
24 | This act shall take effect immediately. |
