| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending Title 40 (Insurance) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated |
2 | Statutes, further providing for definitions and for scope of |
3 | service. |
4 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
5 | hereby enacts as follows: |
6 | Section 1. The definition of "health service doctor" in |
7 | section 6302(a) of Title 40 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated |
8 | Statutes is amended and the subsection is amended by adding a |
9 | definition to read: |
10 | § 6302. Definitions. |
11 | (a) General rule.--The following words and phrases when used |
12 | in this chapter shall have, unless the context clearly indicates |
13 | otherwise, the meanings given to them in this section: |

15 | "Health service doctor." Any health care professional duly |
16 | licensed or certified under Commonwealth statute regulating a |
17 | particular branch of health care practice, including, but not |

1 | limited to, doctor of dental surgery, doctor of medicine, doctor |
2 | of optometry, doctor of osteopathy, doctor of podiatry, doctor |
3 | of chiropractic, licensed physical therapist, licensed clinical |
4 | social worker, licensed occupational therapist, licensed |
5 | marriage and family therapist, licensed professional counselor, |
6 | certified registered nurse anesthetist, certified registered |
7 | nurse practitioner, certified enterostomal therapy nurse, |
8 | certified community health nurse, certified psychiatric mental |
9 | health nurse, certified clinical nurse specialist, licensed |
10 | psychologist, licensed dietitian-nutritionist, licensed speech- |
11 | language pathologist, licensed audiologist or licensed teacher |
12 | of persons who are hearing impaired. |

14 | "Nutrition therapy services." The general and usual services |
15 | rendered and care administered by licensed dietitian- |
16 | nutritionists, as defined by the "practice of dietetics- |
17 | nutrition" in the act of May 22, 1951 (P.L.317, No.69), known as |

20 | Section 2. Section 6322(f) of Title 40 is amended to read: |
21 | § 6322. Scope of service. |

23 | (f) Legislative amendment of stated purposes of existing |
24 | corporations.--The stated purposes of all existing general |
25 | medical service corporations are hereby amended so as to include |
26 | the furnishing of osteopathic, dental, optometric, podiatry, |
27 | chiropractic, physical therapy, clinical social work, |
28 | occupational therapy, psychological, nutrition therapy, speech- |
29 | language pathology and audiology services and the services of |
30 | teachers of persons who are hearing impaired through doctors of |

2 | through licensed physical therapists, licensed clinical social |
3 | workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed |
4 | occupational therapists, licensed professional counselors, |
5 | psychologists, licensed dietitian-nutritionists, speech-language |
6 | pathologists, audiologists and teachers of persons who are |
7 | hearing impaired, respectively. |
8 | Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
