| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of August 14, 1963 (P.L.839, No.407), entitled, |
2 | as amended, "An act creating a county records committee; |
3 | imposing powers and duties upon it; authorizing the |
4 | Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to assist and |
5 | cooperate with it; defining county records; and authorizing |
6 | the disposition of certain county records by county officers |
7 | in counties of the second to eighth class," increasing the |
8 | membership of the committee. |
9 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
10 | hereby enacts as follows: |
11 | Section 1. Section 1 of the act of August 14, 1963 (P.L.839, |
12 | No.407), entitled, as amended, "An act creating a county records |
13 | committee; imposing powers and duties upon it; authorizing the |
14 | Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to assist and |
15 | cooperate with it; defining county records; and authorizing the |
16 | disposition of certain county records by county officers in |
17 | counties of the second to eighth class," amended February 18, |
18 | 1998 (P.L.181, No.29), is amended to read: |
19 | Section 1. There is hereby created a county records |
20 | committee which shall consist of [fifteen] sixteen members who |
21 | shall be appointed by the Governor for a term of four years. One |

1 | member of the committee shall be the Chief Justice of the |
2 | Pennsylvania Supreme Court, or his judicial representative, one |
3 | a representative of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum |
4 | Commission, one an attorney, one a prothonotary, one a clerk of |
5 | courts, one a county commissioner, one a county controller or |
6 | auditor, one a district attorney, one a county treasurer, one a |
7 | sheriff, one a register of wills, one a recorder of deeds, one a |
8 | clerk of orphans' court, one a jury commissioner, one a coroner, |
9 | and the other a member of the general public. The committee |
10 | shall select one of its members to serve as chairman. Within the |
11 | means at its command, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum |
12 | Commission shall assist and cooperate with the county records |
13 | committee by providing for its necessary expenses, by providing |
14 | for examining and inventorying county records for the |
15 | preparation of schedules, and by enforcing such schedules and |
16 | procedures as the county records committee may make or revise |
17 | under the provisions of this act. |
18 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
