AN ACT

Providing for community college educational assistance.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

3

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  Short title.

5

This act shall be known and may be cited as the Community

6

College Educational Assistance Act.

Section 2.  Definitions.

8

The following words and phrases when used in this act shall

9

have the meanings given to them in this section unless the

10

context clearly indicates otherwise:

"Agency."  The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance

12

Agency (PHEAA).

13

"Eligible student."  A student who has completed 60 credits

14

and maintained a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0

15

scale, or its equivalent, at a Pennsylvania community college.

Section 3.  Educational assistance program.

(a)  Establishment.--The Community College Educational

Assistance Program is hereby established.

(b)  Calculation.--The Community College Educational

4

Assistance Program shall provide that the agency disregard one-

5

third of an eligible student's expected family contribution

6

(EFC) and Federal Pell Grant award amount when calculating the

7

eligible student's Pennsylvania State grant.

8

Section 4.  Effective date.

9

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
