                 Senate Concurrent Resolution 8

  Representative KENY-GUYER

  Whereas throughout his life Rob Ingram dedicated himself to
being a positive force in the lives of those around him,
especially those of young people; and
  Whereas Rob Ingram was a gifted listener, communicator and
mentor for youth and adults alike; and
  Whereas Rob Ingram was a tireless champion for minority youth
and dedicated himself to building compassionate communities; and
  Whereas from a young age Rob Ingram expressed interest in gang
outreach work after witnessing firsthand the struggle that many
youths face in being both true to their friendships and free from
gang allegiance; and
  Whereas Rob Ingram graduated cum laude from Warner Pacific
College with a degree in business administration; and
  Whereas through his work as the director of the Office of Youth
Violence Prevention, Rob Ingram was an invaluable and influential
element of Portland's efforts to end gang violence, increase
public safety and build a more family-friendly city by
confronting the root causes of criminal behavior associated with
youth gangs; and
  Whereas in addition to his work with the Office of Youth
Violence Prevention, Rob Ingram served as president of the Urban
League of Portland Young Professionals, as president of the Big
Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest African American Advisory
Council, as executive director of Empowerment Initiatives, Inc.,
as a member of the site council of Woodlawn Elementary School and
as an active member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity; and
  Whereas Rob Ingram was active in church, beginning his public
service work with Emmanuel Community Services and continuing with
work at The Safe Place, a faith-based nonprofit, where he was
chairman of the board of directors; and
  Whereas in every aspect of his life Rob Ingram was a connector
of people, places and ideas, building a sense of community and
understanding among those whose lives he touched; and
  Whereas Rob Ingram died suddenly at just 38 years old and will
be missed not only for his inspirational leadership and
courageous and dedicated work for his community but also for the
example he set for others as a loving family man and selfless
support to those in need of his help; and
  Whereas Rob Ingram leaves behind his wife, Dana, and their five
children, Shamyua, Derriel, Renee, Njeri and Kai, of whom he was
very proud; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:

  That we, the members of the Seventy-seventh Legislative
Assembly, honor and celebrate Rob Ingram for his extraordinary
life and contributions to his community; and be it further

  Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Rob
Ingram's family as an expression of our sympathy and condolences.
