In memoriam: Officer Buddy Ray Herron, 1969-2011.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron was born August 25, 1969, and
killed on November 28, 2011; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron was born in Chicago, Illinois;
and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron attended Tolleson Union High
School in Arizona; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron joined the United States Navy
in 1988 and was honorably discharged in 1996; and
Whereas in 1990 Officer Buddy Ray Herron married Kim Reeves,
the love of his life, and was the father of James, Joshua, Jacob
and Jenna; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron began his career as a
correctional officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections
in 1999; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron moved to Helix, Oregon, and
went to work with the Department of Corrections in 2007, working
at the Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution; and
Whereas on November 28, 2011, Officer Buddy Ray Herron stopped
to assist a stranded motorist on his way to work; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron was then tragically killed
while providing that assistance and in the performance of his
duties as a public safety officer; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron was a hardworking correctional
officer with the Department of Corrections, a loving and loyal
family man and a wonderful father and husband; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron's greatest joys were his wife
and children; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron was able to fix anything
broken or in disrepair, had an incredible sense of humor and was
active with his local church of Latter-day Saints; and
Whereas in his spare time, Officer Buddy Ray Herron volunteered
with his local rural fire district; and
Whereas Officer Buddy Ray Herron especially enjoyed activities
with his family and camping at their favorite spot on the north
rim of the Grand Canyon; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-sixth Legislative Assembly,
honor and express our appreciation for Officer Buddy Ray Herron
and his service to the residents of the State of Oregon; and be
it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be presented with our
condolences to Officer Buddy Ray Herron's family.
