                             SUMMARY

  Requires curricula in kindergarten through grade 12 related to
health or performing arts to include instruction about noise and
effects of noise on hearing, health and learning.
  Takes effect July 1, 2012.

                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to classroom instruction; and prescribing an effective
  date.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + Any curricula in kindergarten through grade 12
related to health or performing arts shall include instruction
about noise and the effects of noise on hearing, health and
learning. The instruction may include information about normal
auditory functions, types of hearing loss, causes of hearing
loss, the effects of noise on hearing and quality of life,
warning signs of noise-induced hearing loss and recommendations
for preventing hearing loss. + }
  SECTION 2.  { + Section 1 of this 2011 Act first applies to the
2012-2013 school year. + }
  SECTION 3.  { + This 2011 Act takes effect on July 1, 2012. + }
