A RESOLUTION
Honoring Kayla Harrison as a 2012 Summer Olympics gold medalist in judo.

       WHEREAS,  The members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Kayla Harrison on winning a gold medal in judo at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, England; and

       WHEREAS,  A remarkable individual, Kayla Harrison has combined talent and competitive spirit with the highest ideals of good sportsmanship to establish herself as a truly exceptional athlete. With admirable dedication, she has worked diligently to attain ultimate proficiency in judo, and as a result, she defeated a tough Great Britain athlete, Gemma Gibbons, to win the 172-pound weight class at this year's Summer Olympics, the first such medal earned by a member of the U.S. women's judo team since the sports' inception in 1992 ; and

       WHEREAS,  A 2010 world champion and a 2011 world bronze medalist, Kayla Harrison's accomplishments and leadership, both in and out of athletic competition, are a justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection not only on her but also on her family, her teammates, her coach, Jimmy Pedro, and her community. Her unwavering commitment to excellence has earned her the respect and esteem of many, and she is certainly worthy of high praise; and

       WHEREAS,  Despite sometimes grueling pressure, Kayla Harrison has consistently maintained her composure and morale, exhibiting strength and stamina in every challenging encounter. Time and again, she has risen to the occasion, amply demonstrating her unflagging determination, and she has set an example for others to emulate; therefore be it

       RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, honor Kayla Harrison on her personal success and extend best wishes for the years to come; and be it further

       RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Kayla Harrison.
