129th General Assembly
Regular Session
2011-2012
S. R. No. 237

Senator Faber

A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders on the Seventieth Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid.

WHEREAS,  The members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to commend the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders on their reunion for the Seventieth Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid, celebrated at the B-25 Gathering at Grimes Field in Urbana, Ohio, April 14-17, 2012; and

WHEREAS,  On April 18, 1942, sixteen U.S. Army Air Force B-25 bombers, led by Lieutenant Colonel James H. Doolittle, launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet and successfully attacked Tokyo and four other cities on the Japanese mainland, but due to the extreme range of the mission and lack of fuel, all of the aircraft were forced to crash land in China and Russia, resulting in the capture of eight airmen, four of whom did not make it home. The Seventieth Anniversary of this unprecedented mission will be observed at B-25 gatherings at Grimes Field in Urbana and then at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton; and

WHEREAS,  Recognition of this memorable event is a fitting tribute to the members of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders. The unit's accomplishments are a justifiable source of pride and an excellent reflection on its former officers and crew and on the U.S. Air Force; and

WHEREAS,  The heroic traditions of our armed forces are an important part of our nation's heritage, and all those who served with the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders earned the respect and admiration of their comrades and the gratitude of Americans everywhere. They provided a valuable service to our country and established a record of achievement that stands as a hallmark worthy of emulation; therefore be it

RESOLVED,  That we, the members of the Senate of the 129th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud the members of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders on their 2012 reunion and welcome them to the State of Ohio; and be it further

RESOLVED,  That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders.

I, Vincent L. Keeran, hereby certify that the above is a true and correct copy of Senate Resolution No. 237, adopted by the Ohio Senate, April 18, 2012.
