of America and Great Britain from 1812 to 1815; and | 5 |
WHEREAS, During that war, American and British forces fought | 6 |
several crucial battles in the Northwest Territory because of the | 7 |

September 10, 1813, American sailors under the command of | 16 |
Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry defeated the British Lake Erie | 17 |
squadron near the Bass Islands; and | 18 |
WHEREAS, America's victory in the Battle of Lake Erie was a | 19 |
direct result of the extraordinary bravery of Commodore Perry and | 20 |
the men who served under him, especially those who were killed or | 21 |
wounded; and | 22 |
WHEREAS, The restoration of American control over Lake Erie, | 23 |
in severing British supply lines and allowing United States forces | 24 |

and | 26 |
WHEREAS, In winning the War of 1812, the United States | 27 |
affirmed its independence from British rule and established itself | 28 |
as a formidable naval power; now therefore be it | 29 |
