STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 9796 IN SENATE May 30, 2024 ___________ Introduced by Sen. KAVANAGH -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Elections AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to changing the date of designation for election inspectors and poll clerks The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 3-404 of the election law, as 2 amended by chapter 263 of the laws of 1991, is amended to read as 3 follows: 4 1. The board of elections of each county shall on or before the 5 [fifteenth day of July] first day of January of each year select and 6 appoint election inspectors and poll clerks for each election district 7 therein, and such number of election coordinators as it determines to be 8 necessary, and may thereafter select and designate election inspectors, 9 poll clerks and election coordinators to fill any vacancy for an unex- 10 pired term. The term of such designation shall be for a term ending on 11 the [fourteenth day of July of the following year] thirty-first day of 12 December of the same year. If the election districts for a general or 13 special village election conducted by the board of elections are coter- 14 minous with the election districts established for general elections, 15 such election inspectors and poll clerks shall also serve at such 16 village elections. If the election districts for such a village election 17 are not so coterminous, the board of elections shall select the inspec- 18 tors and poll clerks to serve in each such village election district 19 from among the inspectors and poll clerks appointed, pursuant to the 20 provisions of this section, for any election district wholly or partly 21 in such village. 22 § 2. Subdivision 2 of section 3-404 of the election law is amended to 23 read as follows: 24 2. Each political party entitled to representation on any board of 25 elections may, not later than the [first day of May] fifteenth day of 26 November in each year, file with the appropriate board of elections, an 27 original list of persons recommended to serve. Supplemental lists may 28 be filed at the same time and at any time before the designation is made EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [] is old law to be omitted.
