          printed to be committed to the Committee on Education

        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to  annual  notifications
          to school districts to combat cyber crime

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 115 to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 115. Cyber crime notification. 1. Annually, on or before July first,
     4  the department shall notify the data  protection  officer,  director  of
     5  information  technology or other head of data and information technology
     6  services for each school district in this state. Such notification shall
     7  include:
     8    (a) a reminder of the strategies and  best  practices  that  are  most
     9  effective in combatting cyber crime; and
    10    (b)  a  copy  of  the "Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure
    11  Cybersecurity Version 1.1" published by the National Institute of Stand-
    12  ards and Technology on April 16, 2018.
    13    2. The notification required by subdivision one of this section  shall
    14  be delivered by email to the appropriate school district officer.
    15    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
