       Introduced  by Sen. THOMPSON -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Environmental Conservation
       AN ACT to amend the  environmental  conservation  law,  in  relation  to
         establishing beverage container recycling assistance grants
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. The environmental conservation law is amended by  adding  a
    2  new section 27-1016 to read as follows:
    3  S 27-1016. BEVERAGE CONTAINER RECYCLING ASSISTANCE GRANTS.
    4    WITHIN THE LIMITS OF APPROPRIATIONS MADE AVAILABLE PURSUANT TO SECTION
    5  NINETY-TWO-S  OF  THE STATE FINANCE LAW FOR MUNICIPAL RECYCLING PROJECTS
    6  OR ANY OTHER APPROPRIATION FOR SUCH PURPOSE, THE COMMISSIONER IS AUTHOR-
    7  IZED TO PROVIDE GRANTS TO MUNICIPALITIES  AND  NOT-FOR-PROFIT  ORGANIZA-
    8  TIONS TO SUPPORT COSTS OF EQUIPMENT, AND/OR THE ACQUISITION AND/OR REHA-
    9  BILITATION  OF  REAL  PROPERTY  OR STRUCTURES RELATED TO THE COLLECTING,
   10  SORTING, AND PACKAGING OF EMPTY BEVERAGE  CONTAINERS  PURSUANT  TO  THIS
   11  TITLE.
   12    S  2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed-
   13  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
