        Introduced  by Sen. GAUGHRAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation
        AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to requiring  the  develop-
          ment  of  a program addressing the problem of wrong way drivers on New
          York interstate highways
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1.  The  highway law is amended by adding a new section 67 to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 67. Wrong way driver program. 1. Within one year  of  the  effective
     4  date  of  this section, the commissioner shall, in consultation with the
     5  New York state department  of  motor  vehicles,  develop  a  program  to
     6  address  the  problem  of wrong way drivers on New York interstate high-
     7  ways.
     8    2. Such program shall:
     9    a. investigate possible reasons for the problem of wrong  way  drivers
    10  on New York interstate highways;
    11    b. assess what other states have done to address this problem;
    12    c. set forth possible solutions to the problem; and
    13    d.  implement  measures  to reduce the problem of wrong way drivers on
    14  New York interstate highways.
    15    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
