          printed to be committed to the Committee on Agriculture

        AN ACT to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to a public
          awareness  campaign  regarding  Lyme  disease  and  other   tick-borne
          diseases

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The agriculture and markets law is amended by adding a  new
     2  section 16-b to read as follows:
     3    §  16-b.  Public  awareness  campaign regarding Lyme disease and other
     4  tick-borne diseases. The commissioner, in consultation with the  commis-
     5  sioner  of health, shall develop and conduct a public awareness campaign
     6  regarding Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. The  campaign  may
     7  utilize  public  forums,  social media and mass media, including but not
     8  limited to internet, radio, and  print  advertising  and  shall  include
     9  materials  and  information  on  the  department's website. The campaign
    10  shall be tailored to educate farmers, farm workers, and  other  agricul-
    11  tural  employees  regarding:  (a)  Lyme  disease  and  other  tick-borne
    12  diseases; (b) recognition of the symptoms  of  Lyme  disease  and  other
    13  tick-borne  diseases;  (c) the available treatments for Lyme disease and
    14  other tick-borne diseases; and (d) preventive measures that may be taken
    15  to lessen the threat posed by ticks carrying Lyme disease or other tick-
    16  borne diseases.
    17    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
