KATZ -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to regulating speed limits in the town of North Salem, Westchester County THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. The opening paragraph of section 1662-a of the vehicle and 2 traffic law is designated subdivision 1 and a new subdivision 2 is added 3 to read as follows: 4 2. THE TOWN BOARD OF NORTH SALEM, COUNTY OF WESTCHESTER, MAY BY LOCAL 5 LAW ESTABLISH MAXIMUM SPEED LIMITS AT WHICH VEHICLES MAY PROCEED ON OR 6 ALONG SUCH TOWN HIGHWAYS IN SUCH TOWN, OTHER THAN STATE OR COUNTY HIGH- 7 WAYS MAINTAINED BY THE STATE OR COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, 8 LOWER THAN THE FIFTY-FIVE MILES PER HOUR STATUTORY MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT. 9 NO SUCH SPEED LIMIT APPLICABLE ON OR ALONG SUCH DESIGNATED HIGHWAYS 10 WITHIN SUCH TOWN SHALL BE ESTABLISHED AT LESS THAN TWENTY-FIVE MILES PER 11 HOUR, EXCEPT THAT SCHOOL SPEED LIMITS MAY BE ESTABLISHED AT NOT LESS 12 THAN FIFTEEN MILES PER HOUR, FOR A DISTANCE NOT TO EXCEED ONE THOUSAND 13 THREE HUNDRED TWENTY FEET, ON A HIGHWAY PASSING A SCHOOL BUILDING, 14 ENTRANCE OR EXIT OF A SCHOOL ABUTTING ON THE HIGHWAY. 15 S 2.
