STAVISKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend chapter 31 of the laws of 1985, amending the education law and other laws relating to regents scholarships in certain professions, in relation to extending the effectiveness of certain provisions thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Section 17 of chapter 31 of the laws of 1985, amending the 2 education law and other laws relating to regents scholarships in certain 3 professions, as amended by section 1 of part I of chapter 57 of the laws 4 of 2008, is amended to read as follows: 5 S 17. This act shall take effect immediately; provided, however, that 6 the scholarship and loan forgiveness programs established pursuant to 7 the provisions of this act shall terminate upon the granting of such 8 awards for the 2008-2009 school year PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT THE REGENTS 9 PHYSICIAN LOAN FORGIVENESS PROGRAM ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO THIS ACT 10 SHALL NOT TERMINATE UNTIL THE GRANTING OF SUCH AWARDS FOR THE 2011-2012 11 SCHOOL YEAR, PROVIDED THAT THE FINAL DISBURSEMENT OF ANY MULTI-YEAR 12 AWARDS GRANTED IN SUCH SCHOOL YEAR SHALL BE PAID. 13 S 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall be deemed to 14 have been in full force and effect on the same date and in the same 15 manner as part I of chapter 57 of the laws of 2008, took effect.
