PADAVAN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern- ment Operations AN ACT to amend the Indian law, in relation to clarifying that the settlement of a claim respecting Indian lands requires the express consent of the legislature THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Section 7-a of the Indian law, as added by chapter 568 of 2 the laws of 1962, is amended to read as follows: 3 S 7-a. Purchase of lands of Indians; SETTLEMENT OF A CLAIM. No 4 purchase or contract for the sale of lands of Indians in this state, OR 5 SETTLEMENT OF A CLAIM RESPECTING THE LANDS OF INDIANS, shall be valid 6 unless made under the authority, and with the EXPRESS consent, BY STAT- 7 UTE OR RESOLUTION, of the legislature. 8 S 2.
