STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 666 2019-2020 Regular Sessions IN SENATE (Prefiled) January 9, 2019 ___________ Introduced by Sen. BOYLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT directing the department of transportation to study the weight limitations for fire vehicles with pneumatic tires The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The department of transportation, in consultation with the 2 thruway authority, the metropolitan transportation authority, the divi- 3 sion of state police, local police agencies, local governments includ- 4 ing, but not limited to, the city of New York, and any other department, 5 division, board, bureau, commission, agency or public authority of the 6 state or any political subdivision thereof deemed necessary by the 7 commissioner of transportation, shall conduct a study to evaluate weight 8 limitations for fire vehicles with pneumatic tires as set forth in 9 subdivision 17-b of section 385 of the vehicle and traffic law, and make 10 recommendations regarding increasing or eliminating such weight limita- 11 tions. Such study shall include, but not be limited to, consideration of 12 applicable federal laws and regulations, and the effect, if any, of a 13 change in fire vehicle weights on state and local roads and bridges. 14 § 2. No later than one year after the effective date of this act, the 15 department of transportation shall submit to the governor and the legis- 16 lature a report on the weight limitations of fire vehicles operating on 17 state and local roads and bridges, as described in section one of this 18 act. 19 § 3.
