       Introduced  by  Sen.  VOLKER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
         printed to be committed to the Committee on Social Services,  Children
         and Families -- recommitted to the Committee on Social Services, Chil-
         dren  and Families in accordance with Senate Rule 6, sec. 8 -- commit-
         tee discharged and said bill committed to the  Committee  on  Children

         as amended and recommitted to said committee
       AN ACT to amend the family court act, in relation to  investigations  of
         abused or neglected children
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. The opening paragraph of subdivision 1 of section  1034  of
    2  the  family court act, as amended by chapter 329 of the laws of 2009, is
    3  amended to read as follows:
    4    A family court judge may order the child  protective  service  of  the
    5  appropriate  social  services  district  to  conduct  a child protective
    6  investigation as described by the social services law and report, WITHIN
    7  FOURTEEN DAYS OF SUCH ORDER OR REQUEST, UNLESS JUST CAUSE CAN  BE  SHOWN
    8  TO EXTEND THE TIME TO TWENTY-ONE DAYS, its findings to the court:
    9    S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
