Assembly Resolution No. 2163

        RECOGNIZING  Lucy  Mujica Diaz for her outstanding
        volunteer efforts and her lasting  contributions  to
        her community

  WHEREAS,  The State of New York takes great pride in recognizing and
applauding those  individuals  who  selflessly  dedicate  themselves  to
inspiring others; and

  WHEREAS, One such individual is Lucy Mujica Diaz, Chair of Community
Board  13  in  Brooklyn, New York; Lucy has been volunteering within her
Coney Island community for over 34 years; and

  WHEREAS, In 1990, Lucy Mujica Diaz chose Coney  Island  to  start  a
family  and  raise her two wonderful daughters, Amanda and Liza; she was
immediately drawn to helping her community and served as the  bookkeeper
for  her  homeowners  association, the Seabreeze Block Association, from
1990 to 2000; when her daughters were young, Lucy volunteered at the  La
Puerta  Abierta Day Care Center, and as they transitioned to school, she
became involved in the PTA at PS 188, holding the positions of Treasurer
and Vice-President; and

  WHEREAS, Lucy Mujica Diaz also began volunteering with the Our  Lady
of  Solace  (OLS) Baseball League in 2000, acting as the Commissioner of
Finance and Commissioner of the T-Ball Division; her daughter benefitted
greatly from her participation in the OLS League and was  a  starter  on
her  college  softball team as a freshman; Lucy Mujica Diaz continues to
help the league with fundraising events; and

  WHEREAS, In 2012, Lucy Mujica Diaz  became  involved  with  Brooklyn
Community  Services  during  Superstorm  Sandy; in 2013, she volunteered
with the Coney Island Autism Angels and  was  instrumental  in  securing
free  space  at the local YMCA; this dedicated volunteer has also worked
with Coney Island Gospel when needed since 1990; Lucy  Mujica  Diaz  has
also  volunteered  with  We Care New York Inc. and with the Coney Island
Beautification Project; and

  WHEREAS, Lucy Mujica Diaz's current focus has been on two  positions
that  are  very  important to her community; she has been with Community
Board 13 since 2013, and currently serves as the Board Chairperson;  she
has  also been a part of the 60 PCT Community Council since 2014, and is
the current Assistant Secretary; and

  WHEREAS, It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  when
individuals  of  such  noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the  citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize Lucy Mujica Diaz for her outstanding volunteer efforts and her
lasting contributions to her community; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Lucy Mujica Diaz.
