        COMMEMORATING  the  2022 celebration of Fleet Week
        New  York,  May  25-31,  2022,  and  commending  the
        patriotic  volunteers  who  assist  and the sailors,
        marines, coast guardsmen and members of the  British
        Royal Navy who are participating in the event

  WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services who have served so faithfully
and  courageously in wars in which our Nation's freedom was at stake, as
well as in the preservation of peace during peacetime, deserve a special
salute from this Legislative Body; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 2022 celebration of Fleet Week New York  (FWNY),  to  be
held May 25-31, 2022, and to commend the patriotic volunteers who assist
and  the  sailors,  marines,  coast guardsmen and members of the British
Royal Navy who participate in this event; and

  WHEREAS, The FWNY is the city's time-honored celebration of the  sea
services; and

  WHEREAS,  Fleet  Week  is a United States Navy, United States Marine
Corps, and United States Coast Guard tradition in which active  military
ships  recently  deployed  in  overseas  operations dock in a variety of
major cities for one week; and

  WHEREAS, FWNY will return to the city this May for  the  first  time
since 2019; and

  WHEREAS,  FWNY,  held in New York City nearly every year since 1984,
was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and was held
entirely virtually on social media; and

  WHEREAS, The Commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic (CNRMA) is the  lead
planning  organization  for  FWNY  this  year;  CNRMA  is  the  regional
coordinator for all shore-based naval personnel and shore activities  in
the  Mid-Atlantic region, which encompasses 20 states, 14 installations,
and 50 Naval Operational Support Centers; and

  WHEREAS, It is anticipated that nearly 3,000 Sailors, Marines, Coast
Guardsmen and members of the British Royal Navy will  be  participating;
and

  WHEREAS,  This event occurs in several locations throughout New York
City including the Manhattan Pier 88 South;  Manhattan  Pier  90  North;
Intrepid  Sea, Air and Space Museum; Manhattan Pier 86; Homeport Pier in
Staten Island; Miller Field  in  Staten  Island;  Fort  Hamilton;  South
Street  Seaport;  Washington Square Park; Times Square; and the Brooklyn
Cruise Terminal located in the Red Hook community; and

  WHEREAS, Three U.S. Navy ships, two U.S. Coast Guard  vessels,  four
U.S.    Naval  Academy  (USNA)  Yard  Patrol boats (VPs), and one United

Kingdom vessel will participate during the  2022  Fleet  Week  New  York
(FWNY); and

  WHEREAS,  The  following  ships are scheduled to participate in this
event including but not  be  limited  to  the  USS  Bataan  (LHD-5),  an
amphibious  assault  ship  from Norfolk, Virginia; the USS Thomas Hudner
(DDG 116) an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer from  Mayport,  Florida;  the
HMS  Protector  (A173)  from  the United Kingdom and several Yard Patrol
boats from the U.S. Naval Academy; and

  WHEREAS, Fleet Week has served as a way for  the  residents  of  New
York  City  and the tri-state area to meet members of the service and to
observe the latest capabilities of today's military; and

  WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices  of  our  military  personnel
ensure  our  continued  role  as  a  Nation  that embodies the ideals of
democracy and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the world;
and

  WHEREAS, Fleet Week New York 2022 provides an  opportunity  for  all
New  Yorkers  to  express  gratitude  to the men and women of the United
States Armed Forces for their tremendous sacrifices made for our  Nation
and for the benefit of all Americans; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative Body pause in its deliberation to
commemorate the 2022 celebration of Fleet  Week  New  York,  May  25-31,
2022,  and  to  commend  the  patriotic  volunteers  who  assist and the
sailors, marines, coast guardsmen and members of the British Royal  Navy
who are participating in the event; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the New York Council Navy League.
