Assembly Resolution No. 972 BY: M. of A. Giglio JA CONGRATULATING Gavin Mangano upon the occasion of winning a NYSPHSAA Division II State Wrestling Championship Title WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Gavin Mangano upon the occasion of winning a NYSPHSAA Division II State Wrestling Championship Title on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York; and WHEREAS, In a competitive matchup, Shoreham-Wading River freshman Gavin Mangano won the NYSPHSAA Division II State Wrestling Championship Title with a pin in 5:56 in his match against Jayden Duncanson of Tioga High School at 131 pounds; and WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of blue and gold, family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically supported the Wildcat throughout his journey as he ended his season with an impressive 51-1 season record and a 117-3 career record; and WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling which demands athletic prowess, endurance, strength, and mental focus, Head Coach Joe Condon worked hard to hone the skills of this State Champion, Gavin Mangano, teaching this outstanding athlete lessons which will prove invaluable both on and off the mat; and WHEREAS, Gavin Mangano of Shoreham-Wading River High School has clearly utilized dedication, determination, and teamwork in providing a lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Gavin Mangano and Head Coach Joe Condon.
