        State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official days that are set aside to promote and encourage positivity
which benefit the lives of the citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim Saturday, February 29,
2020, as Leap of Kindness Day in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Leap of Kindness Day was invented in Saratoga County in
2016 when its Chamber of Commerce decided the extra day should be used

else on the added day we all get on February 29th during  a  Leap  Year;
and

WHEREAS, The Year 2020 is a Leap Year with 366 days; the celebration
of Leap of Kindness Day has already spread to communities across the
United States, Ireland and Canada, by way of local chambers of commerce
taking the lead to encourage their members, neighbors and communities to
do something kind for someone else on February 29, 2020; and

WHEREAS, The members of this Legislative Body care deeply about
their communities and often perform acts of kindness to support local
nonprofits and charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, Leap of Kindness Day promotes actions, such as: thanking a
first responder, teacher, veteran, direct care worker, or a nurse with a
note, a gift or a meal; donating time, food, personal care items, or
clothing to a nonprofit or charitable organization; and delivering
flowers, gifts or food to nursing home residents, and senior citizen
centers, to name a few; and

WHEREAS, Kindness and respect for others is infectious; this
rippling effect no matter how small, can truly leave a lasting impact on
not only the receiver but the giver as well; and

WHEREAS, It is imperative to promote days in which love, acceptance,
non-violence and tolerance are observed, and to encourage all New
Yorkers to participate in Leap of Kindness Day; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim Saturday, February 29,
2020, as Leap of Kindness Day in the State of New York; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
