        CONGRATULATING Lindsey Butler upon the occasion of
        capturing  the Girls 600-meter NYSPHSAA Indoor Track
        and Field Championship on March 2, 2019

  WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly  sought  after
in  high  school  sports;  this  Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special  recognition  to  those  who  pursue  such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

  WHEREAS,  Athletic  competition  helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to  congratulate
Lindsey  Butler  upon  the  occasion  of  capturing  the Girls 600-meter
NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, March 2, 2019;
and

  WHEREAS, A standout runner for the Corning Hawks, Lindsey Butler won
the Girls 600-meter dash with an incredible time of 1.30:00, beating the
second place finisher by 22 seconds; and

  WHEREAS, In addition to her Championship  win,  Lindsey  Butler  was
part of Corning's third-place overall finish in the 3,200 relay, posting
a time of 9:18.85; and

  WHEREAS,  A  senior  at  Corning-Painted  Post  High School, Lindsey
Butler has been a four year member of  the  school's  Indoor  Track  and
Field  Team,  two  year member of the Track and Field Team, and one year
member of the Cross Country Team; in this time, she has helped all three
programs win the Section IV Class A Championship  every  season,  earned
multiple  individual  section  titles  and  broke  more  than  10 school
records; and

  WHEREAS, Prior to  this  monumental  win,  at  the  national  level,
Lindsey  Butler  placed 10th in the 400m hurdles and finished 5th in the
mixed 4x400m relay event which resulted in All-American status; and

  WHEREAS, Lindsey Butler is currently in the top 15%  of  her  class,
enrolled  part time at Corning Community College, and is a member of the
National Honor Society; she is also the proud recipient of the Hands  of
Christ  Award from the Catholic Church of the Rochester Diocese, as well
as the prestigious George Bacalles Award; and

  WHEREAS, The daughter of William and Patricia Butler, Lindsey Butler
signed her National Letter of Intent to run at the Division I level  for
Virginia Tech University on Monday, February 25, 2019; and

  WHEREAS,  The  athletic talent displayed by Lindsey Butler is due in
great part to the efforts  of  her  three  exceptional  coaches,  Andrew
Cartwright,  Ray  Lawson  and  Joe  Melanson,  skilled and inspirational

tutors,  respected  for  their  ability  to   develop   potential   into
excellence; and

  WHEREAS,  Lindsey  Butler's  overall  record is outstanding; she was
loyally and enthusiastically supported by her family, fans, friends  and
the community at large; and

  WHEREAS,  Athletically  and  academically, Lindsey Butler has proven
herself to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably
on her school; and

  WHEREAS, Coach Andrew Cartwright, Coach Ray  Lawson  and  Coach  Joe
Melanson  have  done  a  superb  job  in  guiding, molding and inspiring
Lindsey Butler towards her goals; and

  WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of  teamwork,  pride
and accomplishment, and Coach Andrew Cartwright, Coach Ray Lawson, Coach
Joe  Melanson and Lindsey Butler have clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of  excellence  which  is  a  tradition  of  their  school;  now,
therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lindsey Butler upon the occasion  of  capturing  the  Girls
600-meter NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on March 2, 2019;
and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  copies  of  this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lindsey Butler, Coach Andrew Cartwright, Coach Ray Lawson
and Coach Joe Melanson.
