Senate Resolution No. 1676 BY: Senator MAY CONGRATULATING Linda R. Ervin upon the occasion of her retirement after 13 years of distinguished public service to the Onondaga County Legislature WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend those individuals of outstanding purpose whose lives have been committed to public service and the pursuit of excellence in the conduct of the legislative process in this noble Empire State; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Linda R. Ervin upon the occasion of her retirement after 13 years of distinguished public service to the Onondaga County Legislature; and WHEREAS, With great diligence and honor, Linda R. Ervin served as the 17th District Onondaga County Legislator; the 17th District includes the eastern part of Syracuse, parts of the Syracuse University area, Wescott Area and LeMoyne College area; additionally, the District covers the southwestern part of the Town of DeWitt and Manlius Pebble Hill School, the Jewish Community Center, the Nottingham Shopping Center, and more; and WHEREAS, Linda R. Ervin is a retired real estate broker with a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Syracuse University; she also possesses numerous real estate accreditations from her extensive education in the field; and WHEREAS, Linda R. Ervin is the first Black woman to serve as Minority Leader of the Onondaga County Legislature, truly paving the way and inspiring many others to run for office in the future; and WHEREAS, Linda R. Ervin's active involvement in her community extends to her membership on various boards, subcommittees, and associations such as: Time of Jubilee/Jubilee Homes Board; Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority; Syracuse Chapter of Links Inc.; DeWitt Rotary; newly-appointed Rotary District 7150 Assistant Governor; the MOST Foundation Board; Emeritus board member of Hospice of CNY Board; and Catholic Charities of Syracuse Board; and WHEREAS, Furthermore, she has been a Governor appointee to the Upstate Medical University Advisory Council; Subcommittee Co-chair of NYS Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Committee; Jamesville-DeWitt SRO Task Force; and previous member of the Jamesville DeWitt Board of Education for 12 years; and WHEREAS, For her unrelenting commitment and dedication to the citizens of her community and State, Linda R. Ervin has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades; she has received the following: 2018 NYS Comptroller Proclamation for Outstanding Service; 2020 Concerned Citizens Pioneer Public Service; CASA Light of Hope Award for service; Central NY School Boards' Association Outstanding Service Award; Greater Syracuse Association of Realtors Community Service Award; Syracuse Celebrators Club Community Service Award; Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority Distinguished Service Award; Post Standard Achievement Award; YWCA Diversity Achievers Award; 2009 Benjamin Banneker Jim Dupree Service Award; House of Providence Humanitarian Award; SyraQue Reunion Community Service Award; 2012 Alpha Kappa Alpha Community Service Award; 2012 Syracuse Section National Council of Negro Women Community Service Award; 2015 Syracuse Youth Chapter; NAACP Image Award; 2018 NIA Award Dunbar Association; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Linda R. Ervin upon the occasion of her retirement after 13 years of distinguished public service to the Onondaga County Legislature; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Linda R. Ervin.
