Senate Resolution No. 1330

        LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION   honoring Kevin Huerter for
        his contributions that propelled the  Atlanta  Hawks
        to the 2021 NBA Eastern Conference Finals

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding  athletes  who  have  distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement and team goals; and

  WHEREAS,  Athletic  competition  enhances  the  moral  and  physical
development  of  the  young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in  them  the  value  of  teamwork,  encouraging  a
standard   of  healthy  living,  imparting  a  desire  for  success  and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kevin  Huerter  of  Clifton  Park,  New  York for his contributions that
propelled the Atlanta Hawks to the 2021 NBA Eastern  Conference  Finals;
and

  WHEREAS,  Following  his  collegiate  career  at  the  University of
Maryland, Kevin Huerter  was  selected  in  the  first  round  with  the
nineteenth  overall  pick  by the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA draft on June
21, 2018, and has started 156 of his 200 games in three seasons with the
Hawks; and

  WHEREAS, A graduate of  Shenendehowa  High  School,  and  2016  "Mr.
Basketball"  and  Gatorade  Player  of the Year in New York State, Kevin
Huerter clearly made his mark on the 2021 NBA post season  averaging  11
points, four rebounds and three assists in 18 playoff games; and

  WHEREAS, Kevin Huerter's efforts in the first two rounds of the 2021
NBA  playoff  were  instrumental  in  the Atlanta Hawks' 4-1 first-round
series win over the New York Knicks, and 4-3  series  victory  over  the
Eastern Conference top-seeded Philadelphia 76ers in round two; and

  WHEREAS,  In  Game  7  of  the  2021  Eastern Conference Semi-Finals
against  the  Philadelphia  76ers,  Kevin  Huerter  scored   a   playoff
career-high  27  points,  to  lead  the  Hawks  to  their  first Eastern
Conference Finals appearance since 2015; and

  WHEREAS, Kevin Huerter's performance during the  2021  NBA  playoffs
and  preceding  three seasons in the league has earned the confidence of
the Atlanta Hawks Organization, which rewarded him with a well-deserved,
four-year rookie contract extension; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor  Kevin  Huerter  for  his contributions that propelled the Atlanta
Hawks to the 2021 NBA Eastern Conference Finals; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Kevin Huerter.
