        HONORING  Terry  Barber  upon  the occasion of his
        designation for special recognition by the New  York
        State Office for the Aging in May of 2021

  WHEREAS,  Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play  in  today's  society;  their
past  contributions  and  future  participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Terry Barber
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the  New
York State Office for the Aging in May 2021; and

  WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge  the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and

  WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped  build  and  shape
our  Nation  to  be  the  greatest  in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after  them  may  have
better  lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than  here  in  the
State of New York; and

  WHEREAS,   Terry   Barber   has   continually  demonstrated  extreme
competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent  leadership  in  his
unwavering service to his community and, consequently, has been selected
for this most prestigious honor; and

  WHEREAS,  A  graduate  of  Keeseville  Central  School, Terry Barber
attended SUNY Plattsburgh to pursue a teaching degree while  working  to
pay tuition; and

  WHEREAS,  After  completing  his  student  teaching at both Harrison
Avenue and Tanglewood schools in South Glens Falls, Terry  Barber  began
his  illustrious 33-year career in education as a fifth grade teacher at
Fort Ann Central School; and

  WHEREAS, In addition, during the summer months he  was  employed  in
numerous  capacities,  including  as a New York State Park Ranger at the
Million Dollar Beach in Lake George, a driver for  Freihofer  Bakery,  a
firewood  distributor for Valley View Firewood, a real estate agent, and
a store clerk at Aspland's Store; and

  WHEREAS, A true asset to the  Fort  Ann  Central  School  community,
Terry Barber served as the safety chairman for the elementary school and
co-chaired  a  cystic  fibrosis  bike-a-thon;  his fifth-graders learned
valuable lessons in government  while  he  helped  his  students  become
community  volunteers  by  petitioning the State of New York to create a
safer intersection in the Town of Fort Ann; and

  WHEREAS, Furthermore, when this extraordinary man was not  teaching,
he  was  helping out his fellow teachers by serving in various positions

as a member of the Fort Ann Teachers' Association, including  president,
vice president, treasurer, negotiator and grievance representative; and

  WHEREAS,  A life member of the Fort Ann EMS, Terry Barber served the
rescue squad as an EMT, First Aid Captain,  president,  vice  president,
treasurer, board member and CPR instructor for more than 35 years; and

  WHEREAS,   With   a  steadfast  and  unwavering  commitment  to  his
community, Terry Barber serves as a trustee for the Village of Fort Ann,
and as a  member  of  the  Knights  of  Columbus,  BPOE  Elks,  and  the
Washington County Hazmat Team; and

  WHEREAS, Furthermore, he serves as a member of the Washington County
Traffic  Safety  Board and is a member of the Board of Directors for the
Washington County Home for Aged Women, as well as a devoted  parishioner
of  St.  Ann's  Church  for over 40 years, serving as trustee and parish
council; and

  WHEREAS, Terry Barber met his wife Maureen in 1974, and they married
five years later; they are the proud parents of three children, Melissa,
Colleen and Patrick; and the loving grandparents of two  grandsons,  Sam
and Will; and

  WHEREAS,   Rare   indeed  is  the  impressive  dedication  shown  by
individuals for the benefit of others which Terry Barber  has  displayed
throughout his life; and

  WHEREAS,  Terry Barber has enriched the lives of his family, friends
and colleagues through his love and respect for others, and through  the
wisdom  which  comes from many years of living life to the fullest; now,
therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor  Terry  Barber  upon  the  occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the New York State  Office  for  the  Aging;  and  be  it
further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Terry Barber.
