STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 10366 IN ASSEMBLY May 24, 2016 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. PAULIN -- read once and referred to the Committee on Agriculture AN ACT to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to estab- lishing microchipping standards The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The agriculture and markets law is amended by adding a new 2 section 111-a to read as follows: 3 § 111-a. Microchipping standards. 1. Any microchip implanted in a 4 companion animal after the effective date of this section must be 5 compatible with the universal frequency standards, ISO 11784 and 11785, 6 of the International Organization for Standardization, and must respond 7 to a transponder which operates at 134.2 kilohertz. 8 2. Microchip readers used by veterinarians and animal shelters must be 9 capable of reading the standardized frequency described in subdivision 10 one of this section. 11 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after 12 it shall have become a law. EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [] is old law to be omitted.
