        AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to  requiring  hospi-
          tals  to  have a registered professional nurse as a sitting and voting
          member of the governing entity responsible for developing  the  hospi-
          tal's strategic plan, structure, systems, policies and programs

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 2801-a of the  public  health  law  is  amended  by
     2  adding a new subdivision 18 to read as follows:
     3    18.  All hospitals shall have a registered professional nurse, holding
     4  a current unencumbered license from New York state,  as  a  sitting  and
     5  voting  member  of  the  governing entity responsible for developing the
     6  hospital's strategic plan, structure, systems,  policies  and  programs.
     7  Such  board  position  may be in addition to the maximum number of seats
     8  allowed for the governing entity responsible for developing  the  hospi-
     9  tal's strategic plan, structure, systems, policies and programs.
    10    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after
    11  it  shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend-
    12  ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen-
    13  tation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be  made  and
    14  completed on or before such effective date.
