          read once and referred to the Committee on Codes

        AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to retention  of
          court records pertaining to violent felonies

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The criminal procedure law  is  amended  by  adding  a  new
     2  section 180.86 to read as follows:
     3  § 180.86 Retention of court records pertaining to violent felonies.
     4    The  chief  administrator of the courts shall promulgate schedules for
     5  the retention and disposition of court  records  pertaining  to  persons
     6  convicted of violent felonies. The chief administrator shall direct that
     7  all such records pertaining to violent felony convictions be exempt from
     8  disposition or expungement and shall be retained indefinitely.
     9    §  2.  This  act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall
    10  have become a law.
