         RAMOS -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education
       AN ACT to amend the education law,  in  relation  to  requiring  certain
         public schools in any city with a population over one million to offer
         Halal food options during lunch
         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
    1    Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section  915-a
    2  to read as follows:
    3    S  915-A.  HALAL  FOOD  OPTIONS.  IN  ANY CITY HAVING OVER ONE MILLION
    4  INHABITANTS, ANY PUBLIC SCHOOL THAT HAS TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT OR  MORE  OF
    5  STUDENTS PRACTICING HALAL SHALL OFFER HALAL FOOD OPTIONS DURING LUNCH.
    6    S 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after
    7  it  shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend-
    8  ment and/or repeal of any rules or regulations necessary for the  imple-
    9  mentation  of this act on its effective date is authorized to be made on
   10  or before such date.
